Stuck at home with no end in sight? Skin acting weird from stress? Makeup routine gone out the window? There is something that you can do which may be a bit more zen than binging a show on Netflix about some guy who owns tigers or scrolling through tik-toks for the thousandth time.
And it's... a DIY at-home face mask!
We've got some tips on how you can still put your favorite makeup brush to use (that is- if you are missing your pre-quarantine makeup routine), and the best part is that your commute to find the ingredients is as simple as a walk to your kitchen.
Your mask can include one of or a combination of the following ingredients:
-Honey (or Manuka Honey for added anti-microbial effects)
-Whole Milk Yogurt
-Aloe Vera Gel
-Cooked oatmeal or ground raw oatmeal
What else you may want to have on hand:
-A bowl of water
-Small bowl and spoon
-Makeup brush - (recommended: the foundation brush from our Go and Glow Brush Collection), or any similar brush you have available.
-Your fav face oil or moisturizer
-Something to hold your hair back
Optional: Cold Facial Roller, Cozy socks, a delish beverage, zen music, candles
Tip: Wear a shirt you wouldn't mind getting some of these ingredients on, just in case you spill or smear a bit!
Okay, Let's begin!
First, gently wash your face so your skin is nice and clean.
Next, apply your favorite moisturizer, but make it zen by slowing down. If you have a facial roller, you can grab it from the fridge or freezer now. Make some nice and relaxing downward strokes to help promote depuffing and drainage. Notice any areas of your face that feel tender or painful. Where do you hold tension in your face? Spend some time rolling gently over those areas. You can use your fingers as well, giving yourself a loving lil' face massage (you don't have to be a pro).
Just let it feel GOOD! You are officially crushing the self-love game.
Next, grab your bowl and spoon, along with your chosen ingredients. There is no way to get your mask right or wrong. Just mix whatever ingredients you have on hand together, and use your makeup brush (or your fingers) to apply it generously to your face. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes.
Once you feel complete, take your face towel, dip it in the bowl of water, and gently remove your mask. OR, you can just go wash your face in the sink or shower (easy-peasy)!
Some benefits of each ingredient:

-Turmeric: Anti-inflammatory, natural antiseptic to fight acne, reduces fine lines and dark spots, soothes dry skin
-Activated Charcoal: shrinks pores, balances oily skin, treats acne by soaking up toxins, deep cleansing effect, soothes bites and skin irritations
-Aloe Vera: Calms and soothes inflammation, helps skin retain its moisture. Great for dry or oily skin. Reduces wrinkles and fine lines, increases the elasticity of the skin and repairs damaged cells.
-Oatmeal: soaks up excess oil, exfoliates, soothes eczema, treats dry skin and removes dead skin cells.
Some Mask Combos based on Your Skin Type and Concerns:
-For Dry skin: Honey, Avocado, Yogurt, Oatmeal
-For Oily Skin: Aloe Vera Gel, Activated Charcoal
-For Acne: Manuka Honey, Turmeric, Yogurt, Activated Charcoal
-For Eczema: Oatmeal
-For Acne Scars: Turmeric and Yogurt
Keep in mind that all of the recommended ingredients are natural, safe, and effective for all skin types, regardless of the combination used.
